Crompton Greaves (CG Power) make 198 kV Station Class Lightning Arrester, 10 kA, designed for protection of high-voltage transmission and substation equipment against lightning and switching surges. The arrester is based on advanced ZnO (metal oxide) technology and is of station class (Class-3) design, with a rated voltage of 198 kV and MCOV of 168 kV, offering high energy handling capability of approximately 7.8 kJ/kV. The unit is hermetically sealed to prevent moisture ingress and is constructed with porcelain insulator housing (brown glazed), FRP core/tube, and hot-dip galvanised base structure for enhanced mechanical strength and outdoor durability. It is provided with an aluminium grading ring for uniform electric field distribution and a pressure relief device (Class A, 40 kA peak) for safe operation under fault conditions. The arrester has a nominal discharge current of 10 kA, creepage distance of approximately 6125 mm, and cantilever strength of around 725 kg-m, ensuring suitability for demanding installation conditions.
